Caring for your instrument in Chennai's heat and humidity

Practical tips to protect veenas, violins, drums and wooden instruments from Chennai's humidity and heat, and when to bring an instrument in for servicing.

Keep it dry and out of direct sun

Wood, leather and skins react to damp and to heat. Store instruments away from damp walls and out of direct sunlight, in their covers or cases.

Wipe and cover after playing

A soft dry cloth removes sweat and dust. Cover the instrument after use.

Watch the heads and strings

Drum heads and strings change tension with the weather. If the pitch will not hold, a head looks loose or uneven, or a string frays, it is time for servicing.

Bring it in early

Small problems become expensive ones. We service and repair instruments and supply spares, so bring the instrument in and we will tell you what it needs.
